Video Review of Marlin Beach Resort in Bantayan Island

Marlin Beach Resort is a 3 star, 19 roomed beach resort in Bantayan Island.  Certainly the most distinguished feature is its beautiful beach front area with its brightly coloured beach umbrellas. It does look fabulous. Part of the beach area is raised which gives a better view, so you can sit back and enjoy the amazing views this resort offers. Here is where the restaurant and beach bar are located. For food the restaurant offers both local and international cuisine. The food is pretty decent. Being so close to Santa Fe Town (walking distance) you can also head out to some of the restaurants in town as well.   On the other half of the beach front they have some other lounge chairs and beach volleyball court.

For activities, Marlin Beach Resort offers banana boat, water ski, kayaking and windsurfing. It also offers fishing tours and island tours. The resort can also organise a wedding reception at its beach front restaurant.

The resort also has a van for pick up and drop off at the pier going back to Cebu City.  It is possible also for an airport pick up in Mactan Island, which you will need to arrange with the resort.

The rooms start from the standard room. These are a decent size and come with just the basic amenities. The showers in this room type do not have hot water. The Deluxe Garden rooms come with a small balcony with view of the garden. While the Deluxe Seaview room the balcony comes with a view of the ocean and with the extra amenities of mini bar and room safe. The bathrooms in this room type also have hot and cold showers.

My Review of Marlin Beach Resort

I’ve stayed here a number of times now over the years. The highlight for me here is its lovely beach front, with the umbrellas and lounge chairs. It’s a great way to laze and do nothing on your vacation. For me the rooms are average. I found the beds ok but for sleeping, the mattresses at either Anika Resort or Ogtong Cave Resort were far more superior. Which just meant a better sleep.

Things to do in Bantayan Island

As long as you don’t come during Holy Week, the island is fairly low key and quiet. For me it’s my favourite island in Cebu, which some of the best beaches you can find (see my video). It’s a great place just to chill and work on your tan. It’s one of those picture perfect tropical islands. The best time to visit is during the summer (or around April). That’s when you will see those gorgeous ocean colours. It’s a great place to hire a motorbike and go exploring the island. Worth visiting is Bantayan Town which has a lovely plaza and historic church. Kota Park for some amazing sunsets or head over to Nature Park.  A must do is the island hopping trip to Virgin Island from Bantayan, this is another fantastic tropical paradise. You can see more here on my guide to Bantayan Island.

Getting to Bantayan Island

It takes around 3-4 hours depending on traffic and what transport you take. The easiest is just to organise a taxi from Cebu City to Hagnaya Port (around 2500 PHP) then catch the boat over to Bantayan (around 170 PHP) See more about Bantayan Island at the above link.
